My wife and I love this great Italian restaurant....The staff is well dressed, professional and provide you with a great dining experience....Custom requests are welcome and the entire menu is delicious...They start you off with a complimentary assortment of fresh roasted peppers, cheese, roasted eggplant and ground veal stuffed bread...amazing start...Soft shell crabs are a specialty here and OMG...fresh and delicious perfectly cooked and seasoned Calamari was cooked to perfection and was crisp and tender with a ton of flavor The pasta is cooked al dente and served with just the right amount of sauce and cheese My buddy ordered the filet and said it too was great with a nice portion Great wine list and cocktails with old school servers make this place a must visit for the experienced diner. They have a great bar with live music with a sinatra atmosphere Try the soft shell crabs over ceasar salad and you to will be hooked Very romantic and great for date night or couple stuff and remember to dress smart

Had dinner for my mothers birthday on Saturday. We had an absolutely wonderful time. Everything was fantastic. Not a single complaint in our party of 8. Great service and top notch food. The red velvet cake was one of the best I have tasted. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised, and can't wait to return for another visit

Inconceivable that this restaurant is still open. The waiters were rude and unhelpful, the food was awful. I was with a party of 15, the guest of a well known regular. Our host asked about 1 of the seven bottles of wine she purchased and was told to "look it up on an app" as the prick walked away. The food was soooo sad, too much to detail, nothing to redeem them. Didn't touch my entree, no waiter to be seen for 35 minutes. Asked if I wanted it to go....I explained why it was inedible and not as he assured me it would be....he left it in front of me for 15 more minutes. I've lived in the area for 20 years and this was my first, and last time, for this spot. To the valet...you were great! Come see me when this shithole closes.

Ate here after a recommendation by the concierge host at the hotel. It was a pretty cool restaurant set in a stone building on top of a hill. It has a definite old school vibe to it and exudes pure Italian atmosphere. All of the dishes I had were excellent. I tried an appetizer portion of the gorgonzola gnocchi, and it was very tasty. The highlight of the meal for me was the Lobster and Shrimp in a spicy marinara sauce. Huge portion with plenty of fresh plump shrimp and a whole lobster tail halved. It's definitely not the most modern style restaurant, but I really appreciate a family run business, and the people running the place could not have been more friendly and classy.

Been coming here since the late 80's. Always great food, excellent service and atmosphere. Try the grilled langostino as an appetizer, the gnocchi bolognese as a second dish and the Dover sole as an entree. That culinary trio is, in my opinion, the best in the city. Pair that with a bottle of Pio Cesare Barolo and it doesn't get much better than that. Ask to be seated with Angelo and tell him I sent you. After dinner you can enjoy drinks and live Italian music at the bar. Always a good time.

I wanted to love it here, but to be honest, it's no bueno. The food is mediocre at best, totally uninspired, I used salt (gasp!) to add some flavor to my Collina chicken and my husband's meal, meatballs, were just okay. The pasta was even overcooked, a travesty for an Italian joint. The staff were super professional, it certainly is a classy place, but the food just doesn't live up to the ambiance. And one of the waiters was sick, he kept hacking and it wasn't a pleasant addition to our experience. Hey, I get it, we all get sick, but in a restaurant, it doesn't add to a dining experience.

I have been here several times. Not sure what all the hype is about on this place. I can't disagree that the atmosphere is nice. On the other hand, Rich the host couldn't be more of an a$$. Once I was looking to set up a meal for about 20 people. After asking some basic questions about price, options and wine he basically blew me off. Poor service, below average food and overall not worth the money.

In addition to my previous review, my husband reminded me that the waiter leaned over him multiple times, dropping sweat onto my husband and the items in front of him on the table. GROSS!

I had my doubts about La Collina mainly because I've just never really heard any amazing reviews about it. I'm so happy I finally had my girlfriends birthday as a reason to check this place out. We were greeted by the host and then about 5 other people from the busboy, to manager, waitress, water guy, etc. As this kind of activity may get under the skin of some patrons, I find it something I look forward to when I go to Italian restaurants--that's just the type of personalities they are meant to have. After we were seated, we were treated to different types of breads and oil and also brought out a cold peppers and cheese dish complimentary of the house. (The manager brought one around to every table in the place and I thought this was a nice touch). We split a botte of wine (pretty pricey wine list for what the actual prices are) but still good. I ordered the Linguini con Pesce (linguini served with crabmeat, shrimp, and clams in a white wine sauce). Now, I'm not the biggest seafood fan and can easily be unsatisfied when it comes to clams but this easily was one of the BEST Italian seafood dishes I've ever had. Crabmeat was piled on top of the linguini with 6-7 clams in a circle around that and shrimp spread throughout. Just as soon as I thought they were being cheap with the little bit of crabmeat on top of the linguini, I realized they also spread it throughout the entire dish. I finished every last bit of my dish and enjoyed every bite of it. My girlfriend ordered the Tortellini alla Panna (cream sauce, Italian Prosciutto, and peas). I know tortellini is a simple dish but the flavor of the sauce along with the Prosciutto made this some of the best tortellini I've ever had. Finally, we both had passed up on an appetizer to save some room for dessert; we saw the cart on the way in and knew it would be well worth it. I tried the chocolate cannolil cake and she had a cake with raspberry, chocolate, and cream cheese filling. ABSOLUTELY AMAZING (especially with the hot cappuccino I was sipping on.) Food, Environment, Service, everything was absolutely more than I expected and I definitely will put this on my list of places I have to revisit.

Dropped in the other night for dinner based on a recommendation from the Hilton City Line. Sat at the bar, it was a slow night, but they had a great piano player - worth stopping by to have a drink and listen to. Dinner was good, service was ok - the bartender was friendly but a bit rushed with service (please don't touch the tines of the fork when you set my dinner place). All in all not a bad experience, could have been 4 stars with slightly more graceful dinner service. The grilled veggie app that they give you is really good. Veal parm was good, not great. Wines were kind of pricey by the glass and the modestly prices Montepulciano was essentially jug wine - don't order it! All in all not bad - there aren't many other choices for Italian in the area, but this was fine.

Had very good ravioli with a cream crab meat sauce. It was very rich and none went to waste! :-) Most diners were dressed in business casual attire but they didn't turn me away in shorts and it was a last minute dining choice. They do valet cars which is not an option due to a small parking lot. Overall, I enjoyed and would go back. Dining date: 7/7/12

Not sure what the hype is about this establishment, but for the $91 spent on two people I was disgusted. First, the atmosphere is ok, has some ambiance. But the bar tender was not pleasent and not on top of his game. The other staff members just didnt seem happy. The food was not good. The brocoli rabe and sausage tasted left over, and also had the suppa d'pesce. This was not of good quality either for $36. The lobster tail was impossible to cut and eat, the calamari was also tough and fishy, and the mussles were definately old. So get this. Had a $25 coupon. When I was presented with the bill, the bartender actually put a 20% tip on the tab. Was not happy, as I would not have left him 20% because he was not good. Not attentitive, and not very pleasent. Another down side is the drinks are outragesously priced and under poured. A vodka/club soda was $11. I will say the violin/pianist was very good that night. The only good experience we had there. This was my second trip, and disspointed both times. Not going back.

La Collina is a solid Italian restaurant. It is located on the side of a hill affording diners with a nice view across a river that i will not attempt to spell. The service is excellent - top notch. I am a fan of family-run places like this. Food was excellent - I had some fish that was filleted table-side. The desert card will no doubt be wheeled past you at some point during your meal, and it is not to be missed. Friendly staff, nice ambience, great food and service is a winning combination. Keep up the good work.

Valentine's Day dinner was a delight! We asked for a more private table, and they were happy to accommodate us. The drinks were large and made perfectly. The service was outstanding and the food was delicious with excellent service and a nice presentation; especially the desert cart. Even the valet parking, which I normally eschew was well done and our car was brought to us quickly. It's a little pricy, and probably not for a weekly visit, but for an occasion, I would highly recommend it.

Great experience from the time our car doors were opened by the valet until they were closed! The food was absolutely delicious and the service was impeccable. We would definitely go back again!

The atmosphere is excellent- you feel as if you've stumbled into a stereotype of an Italian restaurant. Live piano music, mildly accented waiters, extensive wine list- it's got a great feel to it. However, the food on all three occasions I've been there is good, but nothing to write home (or on Yelp) about. Maggiano's has better and fresher food at less cost. Basically, everything is impressive about this place except for the food, which is only decent. I'd imagine it's a good place to go on a date or impress clients, where the appearance of extremely fine Italian dining is more important than the actual dining itself.

2/2013 Short version - STAY AWAY as they manipulate your bill to charge you more than the prices on the menu and the food is marginal. Explanation from start to finish 1. Valet parking when there is an entire parking lot with many open parking spaces about 20 feet from the door. The valet guy was pretty rude when we asked to park our car. Host corrected me on how to pronounce my name!!!!??? 2. Ordered a glass of Riesling which they are out of, then a Gewurztraminer which they are out of. Then the waiter brings out a glass of White Zinfandel without asking if we want it. His explanation is it is sweet like the Riesling. So we ordered a glass of red. Asked for a Zinfandel and his response was that he had a White Zinfandel in his hand...........Zinfandel is red. 3. Ordered one of the special appetizers (fig and prosciutto), which they were out of. So we ordered the grilled Calamari instead of the $10.00 Fried Calamari on the menu and a Caesar salad appetizer. Both the Caesar salad and the grilled calamari were special appetizers. 4. The Calamari was slimy and stale and the Caesar salad was maybe four small pieces of Romaine and a couple of pieces of cheese. 5. The vegetable and potato plate that comes with the meal was all combined on a side plate the size of a coffee cup holder. Very small portion for a side dish. BILL comes and it gets worse 6. Charged $46.00 for for glasses of wine. Menu has them priced at $10.00 a glass so it should be $40.00, not $46.00. Ask the waiter and he makes up an excuse that it actually says $40.00, not $46.00 (it is handwritten), but it adds up to $46.00 when adding up the bill. Trying to rip us off for $6.00 here. 7. Ask about the two charges of $16 and $17 on the hand written bill. The $10.00 slimy calamari is now $16.95 since it is a special AND the SALAD is $17 for four pieces of lettuce and two rotten tomato slices. $17.00 for a salad?? All the salads on the menu are priced between $6.95 to $8.95. What a rip off for the Calamari and Salad $33.00 Waiter and manager/host had no concerns about the mistakes and pricing and blamed it on the chef!

I cannot rave enough about La Collina. Seriously awesome. I have yet to be disappointed, and frankly, after years of excellent service and great food, I doubt I will be disappointed. The host checks on you, as does the owner on occasion, to be sure you have everything you need. This is a SERIOUS gem on the main line, I would say one of the best if not the best Italian food in this area. We went last week again, and I had the veal special, along with the grilled calamari special... it was so good I am lusting after it nearly a week later. And to top it all off-- their family has a winery in Italy, and they make a super amazing Malbec, which we have almost every time we visit La Collina. 5 Stars, you will not be disappointed, and for what you get, the price is so so reasonable!

Driving around looking for a restaurant and came across this gem. Service was excellent, food was freshly made and tasty, and wine list included Amarone by the glass (first time i've seen that outside of Italy).

Nice place. Great view. Food is excellent. But the place lacks charm. Also, valet parking is required, even though i practically parked it myself. And when i asked the host to break a 20, so i could tip the valet (for driving my car 14 feet to park it), he gave me a 10 and two 5's. I hate that crap.

I just went to this restaurant for dinner and after I took my first bite I couldn't wait to write a review. I walked in and thought this atmosphere reminds me of Anthony's in Drexel hill, pa. Which has amazing food and great atmosphere. La Collinas has great atmosphere but terrible food. I had linguine with crab, clam, and shrimp. The linguine tasted like it was from a box. Not like radicchio cafe in old city they have home made pasta that doesn't even need gravy. The white wine on my linguine tasted like a stick of butter was melted on the pasta. I couldn't even eat the meal I was so disgusted by what I was putting in my mouth. And the wine did not taste fresh at all. When our bill came it was 80 dollars and I was thinking for what. At Anthony's or radicchio I could order two entrees, an appetizer, and a dessert and not only would it be excellent it would be less than 80 dollars. If your thinking about going to this restaurant don't waste your time or money it is not authentic Italian cuisine.

We spent NYE at La Collina with the family for a nice, Italian dinner and some good company. It is located up on a hill in what I would deem Belmont Hills - their parking situation is dicey, and they have a great valet guy who has obviously been doing this for a while. He doesn't even give tickets, he just seems to remember who drove what. A little unnerving, but it seemed to work just great! Being that it was NYE, the restaurant was completely packed upon our arrival and we had to wait about 20 minutes for our table. We sat in the bar and listened to a live singer, which we enjoyed. We were seated at a table in the middle of the room, not a great location with all of the frenzied waiters swooshing past us. Our waiter was alright - he seemed less than thrilled to be there, but I can certainly understand. He was efficient and forgot nothing, and overall we had a nice enough evening. The food was good, but nothing spectacular. The crowd was a bit on the older side, and again, not sure if this was a result of the special occasion or the usual. Fairly average Italian food, with an average night overall.

Excellent authentic italian ! A favorite fine dining spot. Consistent great meals for many years. Homemade pastas are a personal favorite and other dining partners have raved over the Veal, chicken & fish dishes. From salad to entrees & dessert all delish! The owner takes great care of his restaurant & customers. Always a warm welcome. Excellent wine list & great service too. Pretty ambiance with a variety of dining rooms. Although no reason is needed to treat yourself to a great meal, LaCollina is a perfect place for a special celebration, romantic date night or group dinner. Always a delicious enjoyable evening!

We've been going here for years. My guess is that this place has been here for at least 25 year's - probably longer. You have to be operating a restaurant exceptionally to stay in business that long. The hospitality, ambiance, and food are excellent. Definitely one of the finer Italian restaurants in the Delaware Valley. You can't get a bad meal here. The waiters are old school, with a slight attitude, but in a nice South Philly way - it's all part of the experience. The sauces are as good as it gets - done right...very authentic. Very nice bar scene too w/ piano player.

We have been meaning to try La Collina for some time and finally tried it for dinner. The staff is very friendly and accommodating and the setting is very nice. We tried a range of dishes and deserts and, while everything was ok, it wasn't particularly special. The menu and dishes felt very dated and everything was under-seasoned. Generally speaking we enjoyed the food, but just noticed that it lacked little touches, like no sauce with the soft-shell crab, no garnishes on the main courses or deserts, etc. Again, it all just felt a little dated. Perhaps that's their model sticking with "old world" food and presentation, but for us we'll probably go for a more updated restaurant next time.

Dined on a Thursday. Overall we had a lovely evening. Easy to get to from Center City - beautiful view. Made a reservation, but didn't seem to matter. They didn't have a special table set aside for us. Automatic Valet b/c of the location on a cliff (for safety). Like others have mentioned, it is traditional Italian decor in the main dining rooms. The bar is more modern - round with a grand piano! Looked like a good group of locals were watching sports. The bread and marinated peppers/olives were a great starter. We had a nice appetizer of mussels in marinara sauce (you could have eaten the sauce like soup - yummy). The special Tomato/Onion/Basil salad didn't impress. We ordered a special request pasta combo that they broke down into two appetizer portions: Gorgonzola Cream Sauce, sausage and mushrooms with Penne pasta. Man was that a good choice! Rich - a little heavy on the cream. Our entrees were delicious: Veal Porterhouse (full of flavor) and Branzino whole fish, filleted at the table. The entree specials were very pricey though ($ 36 each) They serve house wines - we loved the MALBEC. Our dessert came from a cart - served directly by our waitress. We tried the Rum Cake. Eh.... We want to go back when the pianist is playing in the bar! I hear he is great on Thursday nights!!!

It is with heavy heart that I write this review...In the past, La Collina has been one of my all time favorite restaurants. It was my go-to special/fancy dinner place because the food and service was always top notch. No more, it seems. My date and I made a reservation, but when we arrived they had lost our reservation. Our waiter was inattentive and visibly irritated that I didn't order alcohol and neither my date or I ordered an appetizer; perhaps as a result of this, he was inattentive the entire night, rarely ever checking on us. I ordered the fettucine alfredo which was very disappointing and almost flavorless despite being $19. After the waiter neglected to show me the bottom shelf of the dessert cart and I had to ask about it, I ordered the peanut butter cake which was underwhelming, at best. And to top it off, the restaurant was loud all night. All this plus the mandatory valet parking...I don't know what changed, but La Collina is no longer the great spot it used to be.

This is by far my favorite Italian restaurant. The food is excellent. The bar is recently remodeled and very nice. The wine is excellent. On Saturday nights they have live operatic singer in the bar. Wonderful dinner and night out.

I brought my gf to La Collina for Valentine's day because I knew of the location which appeared to be romantic. At arrival noted valet only and went into the restaurant. We got a waiter he was to put it kindly large. He was sweating and had trouble breathing and taking our order. The starters (bread and eggplant w/ red peppers) were probably the only good thing about this place. I got the chicken parm and my gf got the surf and turf. Out of both of these orders the only thing marginally ok was the steak. The tail had little taste and was petite by all means. My chicken parm did not come with any pasta which should have been suggested by our waiter if it was not included. After our meal which left me disappointed I stood up and noticed the valet attendant get into my luxury car and fly through the small parking lot and drove very fast right into a tight spot near the building and I almost lost it! Once i got outside he asked what car and got in it at the side of the building and once again slammed the gas to bring it up to the front. When he got out I confronted him and said I really do not appreciate you driving my car like that. His response, "when I get in the car my adrenaline just starts pumping." COMPLETETLY UNACCEPTABLE!!! I was so mad on the way home when i got there I had to call the restaurant to complain. The managers response (believe his name was Joe) "oh the valet guy yeah we have had complaints about this before."!!!! What why would you still employee someone who is not respecting your customers property which pretty much consists of BMW's, Mercedes etc.. Will never go back and you should not waste your time with this place!!!

Used to be one of "tried-and-true" decent Italian restaurants off the Main-Line. Standard menu is good (if you're not really Italian), but service was impeccable, and truly accommodating to make the evening feel special. During my most recent visit with a party of friends, we were told, 10 minutes after our order was accepted, that one of the featured dishes, soft shell crabs (Big sign if you see the restaurant from Route 76) was not available, despite my specific request when making our early reservation that this would not be a problem, and being reassured when checking in with the host/owner, and the guarantee, "Not a problem", and finally when ordering the meal, "Excellent choice" . Okay, sh-t happens, chefs miscalculate when ordering inventory. But when asked to speak with the host/owner, he stated, "If you can't find something else on the menu, then you should leave my restaurant immediately!" We did leave, and will not be back. Not because the food is basic veal-parm, that you can make tastier at home, but because the attitude is "Your welcome during the week when we're slow, but we don't need your business when we're busy on a Saturday". This makes a mediocre Italian restaurant, less desirable both in what they promise, and in what they ultimately deliver.

Had a reservation for 7:30 and was not seated until 8:15. We were a party of 4. Now to make matters worse, our waiter was as nasty as could be. He told us about the specials, never told us prices. When we asked him about the prices, he responded in a condescending way that made us feel cheap for asking. We asked if the iced tea was free refills and yet again he was nasty, saying "whatever you like" in a very sarcastic tone. The food was very good we had the gnocchi and it was great. Hopefully, management sends our waiter packing

We went there last night for a romantic belated Valentine's Day dinner. We were promptly greeted by the very friendly valet who parked our car (no ticket though - he just told us to ask for our car by it's type) and then someone took our coats and we were seated in the beautiful dining room (the rounded part that butts out). I thought the dining area was beautiful. The "view" was on 76 and of Manayunk, which is OK but do I consider that a "good" view? Nope. They really pack people in there so it gets LOUD and is hard to get around. Our waiter came off right away and he smelled like horrible stale smoke. That kind of put me off a bit. He and the other wait staff were super sweet but "fine dining" service they are not. Two examples - we were not given nor offered a wine list and when we were told the specials they were shouted at us and a neighboring table in a random order (e.g., an entree here, an appetizer there, etc.). The food? It was not bad but not super great. We had tortellini with proscuitto and peas that was pretty yummy. Then, we had veal parm and one of their specialty chicken/lobster/asparagus dishes. The veal parm was ok - again nothing special. I had to ask for parmesan cheese = that made it better! The other la collina dish was "eh" I thought the lobster was super fish and a bit rubbery. We had some champagne (no idea what since we didn't have a wine list) that was OK. We opted for no dessert because we were pretty full and ready to head out. We checked out the bar on the way out and it looked AWESOME. There was someone singling live in there and it was really pretty and chill. I'd consider going back for sure - it's not too expensive and was a nice experience. (I just like to be honest on here so you know what you are getting!)

Disappointing place. First the good, the facility is quaint and well air conditioned. The bad news is the food and service is not good. 4 of our 5 filet mignon were overcooked. The dessert of ice cream covered in chocolate was bland and uncreative. Plus, the server only refilled the water glasses for the women at our table, served over our plates and in front of our faces rather than going around us, and bumped me more than a few times, never saying "excuse me."

Booked it out to suburbia for this meal, but it's always worth it at La Collina. This is my boyfriends family's favorite spot and I've become a huge fan in the past few years. The crowd is definitely a little older, but I don't come for the crowd and it doesn't bother me! The food here is always too quality and cooked to perfection, be it fish, gnocchi, calamari, clams casino...you name it everything is incredible. I have been probably 12 times I'd say and never leave anything but full and happy. The dessert cat alone is enough to keep me coming back....all homemade tiramisu, cheesecakes, chocolate mousse cake, and my favorite: the seasonal berries with fresh whipped cream...ugh heaven. Diabetes for sure but it's worth the splurge! My ultimate fave is the gnocchi bolognese, don't pass it up! The best part about this place is that no matter the day of the week or time of night you go, you will ALWAYS get a good meal. Consistency is key and La Collina has got it!

I am so impressed by the professionalism of this establishment that they have my full endorsement. I am grateful for the top notch service the professionals at La Collina observed during a very unfortunate time in my family's history. We were here for a funeral luncheon, my wife's Uncle F. Emit Fitzpatrick, former DA of Philadelphia and Defense Attorney had passed away after a long bout with Alzheimer's. It was his favorite restaurant, and the owners were happy to accommodate the request to reserve the entire restaurant for the event, despite the fact that he had not been there for at least four years. There was a motorcycle police escort to the restaurant after the funeral services and what not and the top notch service started from the moment we entered the parking lot. The valet was running to grab cars in the scorching sun and took care of our every need, without question. Upon entering the bar we were served drinks promptly, despite the enormous amount of family and friends who were filing in. The bar tenders were unflappable despite the throngs of thirsty Irish. Top notch effort by these gentlemen. They offered a variety of dishes for the luncheon, this may not be a normal occurrence, but it was a class act all the way. The veal was perfect, my wife's salmon was amazing, and the pasta was the first pasta I have had in a while that I actually wanted to take home with me. Think about what I am saying... This was a funeral luncheon, not dinner, not lunch, a funeral luncheon, and everything was spot on, not the typical bad food that comes with such events. Even the butter on the table seemed better than most restaurants. They use deep rich coffee and the staff was nothing but professional and efficient. They catered to Uncle Emit's children's every request, and made us feel as though they were here to comfort us and provide for our every need in this very unfortunate time of loss. There was a time when I walked up to the bar for a drink after our meal. They actually apologized to me for not asking if I wanted another beverage at my table. I just wanted to stretch my legs, they actually asked me to return to my seat while they brought it to me. "You have more important things to attend to, go be with family.", the gentleman said. The drinks arrived in about 2 minutes. That is service, that is professionalism, and that is humility and gratitude for the business my family gave to this establishment this day. 5 stars with not even trying. My wife and I will make this a place we plan to visit in happier times to raise a glass to her loving uncle.

This place is old school. Dining and fancy restaurants have moved on a lot since the 1980s, as anyone who dines regularly in Center City will tell you. But La Collina is a throwback. Simple but elegant meals, old, no-nonsense waiters in bow ties who call you "sir". Stereotype Italian music over the ceiling speakers? Yep. Dessert cart? Oh yeah. It's like stepping into a time capsule. None of this would be worth mentioning if the food wasn't good, but in three separate occasions, I've really enjoyed my veal based entree each time; it was fork tender. It's nothing remotely fancy, but always solid. And cart or not, the cheesecake was creamy and delicious. The food and service earn four stars. The prices and fact that I can't park my own car prevent a fifth. The place is a time capsule, but one that retains most of the good stuff. If grandpa can't handle that "fancy new fangled stuff" they serve downtown, take him here, he'll love it.

I went to this place because for the area is considered a high end restaurant and I wanted to go somewhere nice. The restaurant's ambiance in nice but the food is just average, not worth the money. I paid 39 dollars for zupa de pesce and it was prepared with frozen mussels. Normally I will ask the waiter but I didn't think I had to at this level of pricing. Why would a place like this serve frozen mussels. It's unforgivable and not right.

Mandatory valet atop a steep incline. Efficient coat check. Elaborate table set up with perfect views of the dirty river. Attentive server. It was fun to feel fancy for a night. Arrived with a party of six earlier this month, and we all left happy and stuffed. I chose the Moscato and it was quite pretty/fantastic. Especially the pretty part, though. (See attached photo!) My entree, the chicken parm, was also top-notch. But the stand out of the night? Blueberry velvet cake. That's apparently food. Really, really good food. So good that I was depressed leaving a small bit and some of the icing due to a lack of stomach space. I can still taste it -- it was that good. Sigh. They should sell that stuff in supermarkets. I'd buy in bulk. I'd recommend La Collina for special occasions (and special occasions ONLY unless you're swimming in cash.)

This was a great formal Italian restaurant with all of the things you expect from the bar to the pickled vegetables the the bread with olive oil to the pasta. I has a great risotto. There was a lot of fish and some cow and a little pig and chicken. It wasn't cheap but it was perfect for a graduation celebration. I loved the staff. It seemed like everyone was really Italian which apparently isn't weird in Philadelphia.

Wonderful ambiance with a menu to match. Very professions and attentive staff. Excellent well stocked bar, including Baby Brunello and Super Tuscan offered by the glass. The actual wine list isn't extensive but what is offered, is solid. I would rate La Collina 4.5 if I could, deduction of 1/2 point for somewhat limited wine list.

I was so excited to bring my husband back to La Collina after my lunch a few months back. Last night we were driving by on 76 and thought this would be the perfect opportunity to give it a try. Since we were trying for a last minute reservation, we called ahead and confirmed they could accommodate. So we should have just left upon arrival. Apparently valet parking is the only option in the evening. We had a few things to take care of in the car before heading in which didn't make the valet parking too happy. We hadn't planned on valeting the car either so we requested our keys back while we dined. Even after our car was parked, it took quite some time to receive them back. We were initially seated at a table across the room from the window. I had enjoyed the view of Manayunk/76 last time so I asked if we could be moved to the window seat. With the exception of a large party in the back room, the restaurant was fairly empty so moving wasn't a big deal. Unfortunately this table move brought us closer to that aforementioned large party. Now this wasn't La Collina's fault, but this party was out of control. There were at least 3 or 4 small children that were screaming and running a muck in the restaurant. It seemed like Chuck-E-Cheese versus a nice Italian eatery. We knew our tolerance wouldn't last long so just opted for entrees. Our food was on par with our overall experience. I was excited to have Veal Sorrentina, which I had enjoyed so much on my previous visit. What a disappointment! The veal had this off taste to it, like it possibly had been frozen and reheated. There was an almost chlorine-like taste. The sauce was similar to last time but lacked the robust flavor, which could have been the culprit of a reheat. It came with green beans and potatoes. The green beans were almost rubbery. The potatoes were the only consistent thing on my plate. My husband also had a veal dish which he deemed pretty mediocre as well. Our server was great though. The entire meal she was attentive and friendly. She saw our frustrations with the large, loud party and offered us a complimentary after dinner cordial. At that point we just wanted to get out of there so we declined. Needless to say, I will not be going back to La Collina by choice and am not looking forward to a return visit for a work lunch.

Meh. I've had much, much better. The ambiance is great if you can appreciate that old school vibe. We were seated in the round room that has all of the windows. The service was very good and friendly. This place is very old school and filled with wealthy old people. Servers are old and polite. Food: Bread/butter/antipasto - Average. Bread was not warm. They bring a little plate of antipasto which was a nice touch. Mussels - Worst I ever had. (honestly) Cold, small portion and absolutely TINY. Your average bar does them 10x better. Embarrassing. Gnocci Gorgonzola: Amazing. Rich, creamy, delicious. Chicken Parm: LAME. $20 and super small. Nothing special at all about it. Olive Garden's is twice as good for like 10 bucks. (Cliche comparison, but hey, you get it, right?) Pasta Primavera: Very nice. Overall a TOTAL RIP-OFF for what we got. (Please be open minded and realize that I am NOT trying to be cheap - this was just a horrible value.) For 2 people, all the above plus just 2 drinks was like 125 with tip. I could have had TWO full meals somewhere else that would have been a lot better. (Villa Di Roma in south Philly for example.) I left disappointed for sure. I felt bad because they were so nice but they need to step it up.

Wish I could give this place more stars because the atmosphere is great, staff is nice but my meal was just terrible. I forced half of it down. I got a chicken dish, the sauce was tasty but my chicken was barely able to be cut and very rubbery. I have no idea where it came from but I honestly was disgusted by it. My dates penne pasta was tasty and prepared nicely. Maybe it was just a bad run... :-/

My boyfriend and I came on a Friday evening expecting it to be booked, but it was surprisingly very quiet! Our server was extremely attentive-always asking us if we were satisfied and taking away extra plates. The Arancini (fried rice balls) were INCREDIBLE and I highly recommend them as an appetizer! My boyfriend loved his gnocchi and I loved my veal with crab meat - though I wish it had come with half the amount of meat and a side of pasta or something. Also, the tiramisu was ENORMOUS and should DEFINITELY be shared! Overall, very pleasant experience for a classy, quiet night out - although, it seemed moreso for an older crowd.

Great ambiance, wonderful service, and classic Italian fare done right. The restaurant carries their own family wine from Italy and the Malbec and Cabernet blend are very good. We had the tomato and mozzarella appetizer with large thick tomatoes and a wonderful balsamic. The Gorgonzola gnocchi is an absolute must try. The chef custom made a vegetable risotto for me (vegetarian) and it was amazing! Overall a great spot for a romantic night out, can't wait to go back!

I'm going against the grain on this one and giving this place two stars which seldom does a restaurant earn this little in my book. Been meaning to try this place for awhile and finally ended up going here with a large party for a work luncheon. At lunch it's self park and none of the live entertainment mentioned in the dinner reviews. We were greeting by an older gentlemen and a trio of older guys which would be our waitstaff. I was disappointed no wine menu was given and no beer list. The waiter smugly reply to my question of "what beer do you have", "what beer do you want". Knowing that they probably only had coors, bud and peroni, I went with a Peroni. The menu is very generic Italian and very over priced. I didn't find the food (calamari app and crab ravioli) all that good, merely average. Our experienced was soured when one of my coworkers found a bug (fly sized) in his ice. We were comp with dessert although only 2 people took them up on the offer as we were looking to make a quick exit. This just seems to be one of those place you love if your one of the 55+ year old regulars but prob wouldn't venture back for a first timer.

Authentic italian decor and ambiance. The food was overpriced though it was served in a timely manner. Biggest criticism - our waiter had been sweating profusely and put his hands on our plates n cutlery immediately after wiping his head..... With his bare hands.

La Collina hosted a special occasion party/dinner for us in the bar area. Group was about 25 adults and about 8 kids. We couldn't have been happier with the entire process and how the event came off. Dario and team were gracious and helpful in customizing food and setup for us. The staff - wait staff, bartender, and Dario were a pleasure to work with and very responsive throughout the evening. Our guests loved the variety of options - pastas, chicken marsala, roasted peppers, clams casino. Nobody was left waiting for a drink. The pours were a little big, which is not something anyone would every complain about. A few people here complained about the valet, but he was great. Parked our guests cars in the back so as not to tip off our surprise guest of honor about the surprise. And moved all of the family's cars to the front, started and warm on a cold night. La Collina is an ideal location for a special event or private party. Central location near 76. We had guests coming from Jersey, Chester County and points north. Great service, good food and a warm atmosphere with character. Thank you for making our party the special event we had hoped it would be.

My boyfriend and I were very excited to try La Collina for our Valentine's Day dinner, as we'd heard that the food was really good. The ambiance was nice and we live in Manayunk so the location was great for us...however, we were very disappointed with our food. We started with fried calamari which was probably the best part of our entire dining experience..and it wasn't even THAT great! I ordered the linguine de pesce--linguine with crabmeat, shrimp and clams--and i was sorely disappointed. The pasta was swimming in butter sauce--way too much. The amount of crab was little to none, and the clams seemed a bit under-cooked. My boyfriend got the surf and turf ($45!) and was also disappointed. The middle of the lobster was some sort of stuffed crabmeat, which wasn't on the menu and he doesn't like crab at all. Oh plus, our waiter was VERY odd...a bit Italian dude who was just weird, and our food came out on the bottom tray of a cart that he used to roll out someone else dinner on the top part of the cart. I have to say, I've never seen that before. The food is PRICEY here too, and I wouldn't have minded paying if the food was worthwhile but it really wasn't. We won't be going back here again. Oh, and NONE of the desserts are homemade. I dont think the pasta is either..so, how "authentic" of an Italian restaurant could this be?? I would recommend against going here...

This place was a bit if a disappointment. The place is drab. Service is okay. The good was nothing special. It's hard to find a good setting to recommend it for. There are so many better places around. Cross the bridge and go to manayunk.

Classic italian food. The chicken Marsala was good, the branzino was excellent. Pastas were very authentic. Better pasta then some of the bigger more hyped places in Philly. The desserts were top notch. The tiramisu was seriously top 3 I ever had. It was great. Our waiter was good, he kept a good eye on us. The only drawback is the valet. It seems like a convenient option since average age of place is 55+ but it didn't turn out to be such a great idea. Waited longer for car when I could of walked the 50' to go get it. But overall it's a decent spot and I would recommend it.

Spending $220 on a meal for two should be excellent, acceptable at a minimum - ours was very disappointing. Be sure to review the amounts charged on your check versus the amounts on the menu as they were incorrect on both ours and the table next to us...My wife and I had a rare night out on a Saturday night but only had two hours as we needed to get home to our young babysitter - plenty of time for a dinner though. We had an 8:15pm reservation for 2 and showed up a few minutes early. We were told that our table was just paying their check and it would be a few minutes but could wait in the bar. We finally got our table around 8:45pm, and told both the host and our waiter we were on a tight timeframe due to our babysitting situation and when asked if we wanted to start with a drink pointed out that we did not have menus. The atmosphere was charming but a bit tight on space and louder than what I would have expected. After getting our menus, my wife and I ordered a bottle of wine, a salad special to split, the Bronzino (fish special) for me, and the Zuppa Di Pesci for my wife. My wife asked if she could not have clams and calamari in her dish and instead have more of the other seafood items which the server said would be no problem. The Bronzino was described as a whole fish which would be filleted at the table. The salad was fine, nothing bad but nothing of note. When the main course came my wife's Zuppa Di Pesci had mussels and a white fish which seemed to be substituted for the clams and calamari which was fine even though it was not what she asked for. The dish was average and not worth the $38 that was listed on the menu ( nor the $40 we were charged). My Bronzino was presented to me as whole fish on a bare plate and then quickly taken away to filet. However, there was not room in front of our table, so it was filleted on the other side of the room, while my wife's dish was sitting in front of her. Once I got it the Bronzino was flavorless, with a side plate of cold string beans and over cooked potatoes. I had to squeeze the lemon over the fish three times just so I could taste what I was eating. Service was poor and now we were really feeling rushed at the end of our meal to get home so we asked for the check. The amounts on the check did not seem correct (which the table next to us alerted us to) but we needed to leave quickly? Outside we asked for our car and when the valet came back quickly I gave him $1 which is less than I would usually give but the night had been disappointed. With my back to him I heard him curse and when I turned around he had walked away and the $1 was crumpled up on the ground. When we got home and checked the prices on menu on confirmed we were overcharged. I will be calling tomorrow to get this rectified.

Benefitting from the limited options available in Bala, La Collina is the epitome of a traditional Italian restaurant. Uninspired menu of things like chicken Parmesan, and tortellini soup. The waiters, while pleasant, were all very old and slow, I'll be back, but only because its the only real option for a business lunch in the neighborhood.

This is a good place to come if you're looking for a good elegant and traditional Italian meal. My wife and I have been here twice and enjoyed our meals both times. The veal was tender and the pasta was done right. They go to great lengths to be classy, from the greeting by the host, to the servers wearing white jackets and wheeling entrees out on carts, to the dessert cart which is extremely enticing. Sometimes it seems a little over the top for 2012, but it's their shtick and makes the experience fun. Both times we felt like we were the only people in the place under 50 not accompanied by their parents. We found it quite humorous, in fact. Perhaps young people find the atmosphere a bit stuffy, but we don't mind. A tip for those wanting to avoid the valet: drive half a block around the corner and there's free street parking.

We have eaten at La Collina through the years; it's one of those neighborhood places that welcomes "regulars" who come to see other "regulars." The food is traditional Italian and the ambiance is too - you definitely feel a Sopranos vibe here. Our friends asked if we'd like to dine there tonight, particularly because the restaurant had advertised that soft shells were on the menu. Two of us were in, the other two were game because they knew they'd find something else on the menu. A phone call this morning guaranteed that at 7:30 there would of course be soft shells to be ordered. "Should we reserve them?" our friend asked. "Not necessary," was the answer. We arrived around 7, had cocktails, and sat at 7:30, in the bar area, which was too cold due to the AC being too low, and too loud due to the singer being too loud. We ordered the soft shells and other entrees and were well on our way to having a great meal. Soon after we were told that they were out of the soft shells. This is why we had come, we told the waitress, and asked to talk to the manager. The owner instead came to our table, and basically told us that if we didn't want to order anything else, we could leave. He also said that the person who "guaranteed" our soft shells was just a waiter and shouldn't have said that. More drama ensued, and we left, without appetizer or dinner, without an offer of anything else we wanted to order since what we had come to order was no longer available. In a world where competition abounds, this should never happen, especially on the Main Line where there should be many fabulous restaurants and there aren't. Needless to say, we won't be back, and will tell everyone we know about this fiasco. Truth be told, the food is good, not great, and I've had much better Italian at other neighborhood restaurants such as Pescatore and at our super excellent cook/friend's house in Merion.

If you like fine Italian dining with a romantic view, this is the place for you. The menu includes a broad array of starters, along with reasonably priced (under $20) pasta entrees and moderately priced (mid $20's) pesce and carne entrees. The wine list is expansive with a wait staff skilled at pairings. The wait staff itself can be a bit intrusive -- they always seemed to arrive just as my date and I were leaning into each other -- but at least they were attentive. There is a nice bar for after dinner cocktails, plus a small dance floor on the weekends. Free valet parking is a nice touch. La Collina is easy to find, just off the schuylkill at green lane, which makes it a good center point for friends from the city and the burbs to meet. Enjoy, i did:) ~kali

I've driven past this place for years and wondered what it was like, up in the hills above I-76 looking down on the likes of you and me. Now that I can afford to look down on everyone, or at least pretend to for one night - I decided to try it out for a night. It was like dining out in the past. Older clientele - live show tunes from the bar; it felt like I was dining on the set of Goodfellas - everyone seemed to know each other. Great Italian. Definitely fancier fare than most italian places. The ossobucco was like butter. Fantastic deserts. Great view of Manayunk. Good place for a date. Good place to go for a really nice night out. My one pet peeve: we had a reservation, yet waited for nearly an hour before being seated.

I have to say this place is a fabulous old school Italian restaurant. I always judge Italian on how good their red sauce is and this place is up there at the top. My date had the Branzino, Branzino is the Italian name for Mediterranean sea bass, and they cooked the whole fish and de-boned it table-side - awesome. Someone complained about valet parking but I kind of like it especially dealing with Manayunk parking all the time, and it is a little pricey but well worth it.

This is a favorite of our host who is Italtian and most of our party this night was 100% Italian. Everyone loved the place. Very traditional Italian waiters with accents and all. We arrived early on a Saturday, about 5, and it was empty but was packed about 7 when we left.

You've heard about the "Fool on the Hill"? Well this is the "Food on the Hill". Excellent restaurant, try to dine in the semi-circle room overlooking the Schuykill river. The service and food are both quite good, and the dessert cart is a must (if you've been good :-)

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

(4)Stephen P.
(5)Kate G.

(3)T T.

Excellent Food, very classic italian atmosphere, very caring and prompt staff. No complaints, highly recommended for a nice italian experience. Good for well behaved children as well.

(4)Gabrielle P.
Great experience from the time our car doors were opened by the valet until they were closed! The food was absolutely delicious and the service was impeccable. We would definitely go back again!
(5)Jeff L.

(2)Bridget L.

Wonderful service. Expansive menu. Great atmosphere. Pasta and fish very good. Great dessert cart.
(5)Craig D.

(3)Kathleen D.
(5)Mark H.
(5)Mitchell R.

(2)Tony T.

(4)Susan C.
(5)Matt R.

Everything was delicious! Everything! You will get full and have a great time. Saturday has great live singer Elizabeth and music by Pasquale.
(4)Bryan B.
Authentic italian decor and ambiance. The food was overpriced though it was served in a timely manner. Biggest criticism - our waiter had been sweating profusely and put his hands on our plates n cutlery immediately after wiping his head..... With his bare hands.
(3)Eric E.

(2)Carol L.
This place was a bit if a disappointment. The place is drab. Service is okay. The good was nothing special. It's hard to find a good setting to recommend it for. There are so many better places around. Cross the bridge and go to manayunk.
(2)E W.
(4)Brian C.
